Childhood...Avril Romona Lavigne was born on September 27th, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario. Her parents are Judy and John Lavigne (both French-Canadians) and she has an older brother, Matthew, and a younger sister, Michelle.
She loved singing from a young age and grew up singing country music and in the church choir. She taught herself to play the guitar at twelve and when she was 14, her first manager, Cliff Fabri, discovered her when she was singing in a bookstore. Career...In 2000, when she was sixteen, L.A. Reid of Arista Records signed her to a $1.25 million contract. She dropped out of school and moved to New York to record her first album. Her first breakout single was Complicated in 2002 closely followed by Sk8er Boi, both from her debut album, Let Go. It sold over 13 million copies worldwide, became the third best-selling album of 2002 and earned Avril five grammy nods. In 2007, she releases her debut single, Girlfriend, for her new album The Best Damn Thing, both of which reached the top spot on the Billboard charts. |
In July 2008, she launched her own clothing line, Abbey Dawn, her childhood nickname. In 2008 she also appeared in the animated movie, Over The Hedge.
Her fourth studio album, Goodbye Lullaby, was released in March, 2011. Her fifth self-titled studio album, and the latest one the date was released in November, 2013. It included songs like Rock N Roll, Here's To Never Growing Up, Hello Kitty and Let Me Go, a duet with her husband, Chad Kroeger. Personal life...In 2006, Avril married longtime boyfriend, Deryck Whibley, the lead singer for the band Sum 41. Avril was 21 and Deryck was 26 at the time.
But the marriage only lasted 3 years, as the couple divorced in 2009 on mutually agreeable terms. In 2012, six months after collaborating on a song for her new album, Avril (now 27), got engaged to Nickelback lead singer, Chad Kroeger (37). They got married on Canada day in the South of France in 2013 and are still together today. |
